Senior Scientist

Area of specialization

Chickpea breeding

Current area of research

  • Breeding high yielding chickpea with stress resilience
  • MABC for introgression of fusarium wilt / Ascochyta blight resistance and drought tolerance in chickpea
  • Identifying phosphorus-acquisition-efficient chickpea genotypes
  • Mutation breeding for enhanced dry root rot resistance in chickpea

Major research achievements

  • Eight chickpea varieties developed — three CVRC (IPCB 2015-132, IPCK 2013-163, IPC MAS-1) and five SVRC (IPC 2011-112, IPC 2010-134, IPC 2007-28, IPC 2010-142, IPCK 2009-145).
  • Registered five donors with NBPGR: IPC 2020-198, ICC 12315, ICC 15925, IC 117744 and IC 275447.
  • Developed two biparental mapping populations for dry root rot resistance and one for Ascochyta blight resistance.
