Area of specialization
Plant Biochemistry
Research area
Exploring common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) genotypes for bioactive components associated with health promoting properties and flatulence.
Significant research achievements
- Identified key biochemical responses to heat stress in chickpea — changes in GS, GOGAT and sucrose synthase activity in developing seeds.
- Established biochemical markers of heat tolerance — total phenolics, flavonoids, antioxidant potential and phytosterols.
- Characterized heat-induced phenolic metabolites using HPLC-DAD.
- Identified molecular determinants of heat tolerance using transcriptomics.
- Identified candidate genes associated with heat tolerance in chickpea, providing potential molecular markers for breeding.
